Once an icon of British & French engineering, a true masterpiece in aviation history, a plane that could get from London to New York in 3.5 hours but, no longer in our skies. It is almost like we have moved backward, that same flight today takes 8.5 hours. No one has ever tried to recreate what we already had….until now.
Boom is a new supersonic airliner being developed in Denver, USA. Virgin Atlantic has already agreed to options for 10 aircraft & a further 15 to a European carrier who remains unnamed. Boom can fly at speeds of MACH 2.2, that MACH 0.2 faster than Concorde and Mach 1.55 faster than airliners.
What’s really great about Boom is – we might actually get to fly on it! Concorde was made for the wealthy among us. In 1999 a one-way ticket was approximately $5000usd (about $7200 today), Boom wants to make supersonic travel affordable ‘Supersonic Flight – Mainstream Fares’.
The first test flight is planned for late 2017. Will you be flying Boom by 2018?
